YOUR SUMMER RITUAL MENU: Create Your Own Solstice Reflection
Soft & Supportive Rituals for All the Spaces You Occupy
Saturday is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.
It marks the start of a new season that’s rooted in warmth, expansion, emotional depth, and visibility.
Traditionally, the Solstice invites us to celebrate what’s growing, honor what’s ripening, and reconnect with joy. And while that sounds beautiful, I want to acknowledge that this year, and especially in recent weeks, the energy feels...heavy and complicated. Many of us are moving through heartbreak, uncertainty, and righteous anger in response to the ongoing political and social realities in the U.S.
So no, this isn’t just a light-filled, love-and-light kind of post. It’s a real and acknowledging one. Because if you’re feeling stretched thin by the tension of it all because you’re unsure of what to say, how to help, how to cope—you are not alone. We’re all walking the line between numbness and outrage, care and collapse. For creatives like myself, we’re looking for where our “business as usual” art and services fit into the mix.
There’s never been a clean line between spirituality and politics. There’s no ritual strong enough to remove us from what’s happening—but the right ones might help us stay present enough to keep showing up.
When I was young (and still to this day), I’d always hear from my grandmother on the solstices and equinoxes. She celebrates them as reliably as birthdays or other holidays. My mom, without ever calling it a “ritual,” would intuitively refresh the house, shift the energy, and somehow reset the vibe of our space. Back then, I didn’t have language for it—but I felt it. I knew energy was moving and felt different as a result of these intentions and celebrations.
Those early impressions shaped my own relationship to spiritual practice. And the same women who taught me to honor the moon, the seasons, and the energy of a room? They’re also the ones watching the news, speaking up, and showing up. They hold space for both grief and growth. They remind me I can, too.
This ritual menu was created with that energy in mind. It’s a collection of small, intuitive ways to reconnect—with yourself, your space, your strength. These aren’t solutions. But I certainly hope they offer relief. They might remind you that caring for your energy is not a distraction—it’s a form of participation.
Begin wherever you are. And if all you can manage is one gentle thing, let it be enough.
How To Use This Guide:
This is a “choose-your-own-adventure” ritual menu.
You can pick one or two practices from each section and preform them on the day of the Solstice, or space them out throughout the week as the days are long and inviting. But I encourage you to tend to all four layers of your space—body, home, aura, and community.
Let’s get started, and capture the light where we can.
Layer 1: The Body (Your Personal Temple)
Your body is the first space you occupy, and the part of you that you nourish, move, and adorn daily.
Ritual Menu:
Hydrate and Anoint: Start your day with warm water and a slice or two of a tangy citrus fruit of your liking, then gently apply oil to your body. Focus especially on your chest/heart, belly/solar plexus, and feet/root. As you massage, offer gratitude: “Thank you body for carrying my vital life force.”
Practice Breath of Fire or Breath of Joy: Choose one breathwork practice to awaken the solar energy within you. Breath of Fire and Breath of Joy are powerful for activating the nervous system, boosting vitality, and clearing stagnation. I practice both when I want more stimulation, activation, and “buzz” in my body.
Sweat it Out: If accessible, enjoy a sauna or get your heart rate up with some cardio. Let your body sweat out any lingering energies from heavier seasons.
Solar Activation Meditation: Sit in direct sunlight with eyes closed and palms open to receive. Visualize each energy center of your body (chakra) charging with light. Repeat: “I hold light. I share light. I become light.”
Layer 2: The Home (Your Reflective Container)
Your home is your co-regulator.
Ritual Menu:
Solstice Sweep + Threshold Blessing: Sweep your entryway with intention. Wipe your doorframe and threshold using a cloth dipped in warm water with a few drops of orange essential oil. In Feng Shui, orange oil uplifts yang energy, clears residue from the past, and sparks fresh joy—especially powerful at mid-year when energy needs a boost. ·There’s a rhythm I fall into on the first of each month with my home. Or rather, there was a rhythm I was deeply committed to in my previous home.
Altar Reset: Refresh your altar with summer-themed elements: sunflowers, citrus, yellow, white, or orange candles, sea shells, or personal items that feel bright, playful, and charged.
Play a Light Frequency: In the background of your ritual, play a frequency aligned with light and activation. Try 528 Hz (the "love frequency") or 963 Hz (crown chakra / pineal activation).
Layer 3: The Aura (Your Energetic Field)
You carry your aura with you everywhere, so let’s make it feel like a sanctuary, not a shell.
Ritual Menu:
Aura Sweep: Use a feather, comb, or your hands to gently “sweep” your field from crown to feet. Visualize brushing away excess thoughts, static, or energetic clutter. Pay close attention to the space around your head, clearing negative thought patterns or fears about being seen and valued for your light.
Lemon Salt Bath: Soak in a tub with Epsom salt, lemon slices, and essential oils like rosemary or lavender. If a bath isn’t available, try a foot soak with the same ingredients. It’s a great reset and detox to the auric field.
Letter to the You Who Wants to Be Seen: Write a note to the version of yourself that is ready to emerge this summer. Describe her. Affirm her. Let her know you’re watching, loving, and inviting her into the light. After reading it, close your eyes and envision your aura growing larger and more vibrant / bright. Ask yourself: What color is my aura? Can I brighten it?
Try “Scripting” Your Season: I share how in the piece linked below! This is a practice I try to refresh for myself seasonally.
I Start My Day with Coffee, Corded Headphones, & The Voice of My Higher Self.
·You’ve probably picked up on this by now, but I’m a big believer in saying the thing out loud. Speaking your intentions. Declaring your goals. Voicing your needs. These forms of voice activation turn the volume up on the version of you you’re already stepping into.
Layer 4: The Circle (Your Community & Web)
The Summer Solstice is a reminder that our light is meant to be shared.
Ritual Menu:
Light Circles + Verbal Offerings: On my recent retreat, we did a release ritual where each woman blew out a candle to symbolize letting go of something. Then, as a group we "relit" her energy by going around in a circle, showering her with compliments, memories, and affirmations. It was electric. Try this yourself: gather with friends around a fire pit under the stars, or light a candle indoors and take turns reflecting each other's brilliance.
Voice Note Blessings: Can’t gather in person? Send voice notes to 2–3 women in your life. Hype them up. Share something specific they did recently that inspired you. Let your love for your friends and community be loud.
Closing Reflection: Integration
As you close your ritual(s) over the next few days, take time to reflect a bit about each layer of space. Consider what was challenging or resistant, or what felt easy and bright.
This season, I am stepping into...
To support my body, I will...
To care for my home, I will...
To protect my energy, I will...
To connect with others, I will...
