It’s likely because I’m an introvert. Maybe it’s also because I’m an only child.

Whatever the reason, I crave less noise in my life. Not fewer sounds, exactly—just less chatter. As an empath and a highly sensitive person, my brain already sounds like an overactive group chat with no mute button. And as someone who’s pretty clairaudient, it’s like I have an internal radio that picks up on all the frequencies, all the time. So when I’m alone, I’ve found that listening to music with lyrics just adds to the mental clutter.

Have you ever noticed how emotionally charged most songs are? I swear, 90% of popular music is about heartbreak, revenge, or someone aggressively affirming that they will, in fact, survive. It’s a lot. Meanwhile, I’m over here just trying to make my morning tea without accidentally absorbing the existential crisis of an indie singer-songwriter.
